Finding Us

Thanks to the twin benefits of low-cost airlines like Ryan Air and the advent of the Eurostar,
travelling anywhere in France from the UK is not difficult or too time-consuming. The French
domestic rail network SNCF is highly subsidised and reliable.

Access

Airports La Rochelle, Bordeaux, Limoges (2 hours)
Saintes - fast trains to Paris via Angouleme (2 hours) and airports
Car hire available at all airports and in Saintes.
A10 junction 35.

From Saintes

To avoid Saintes approach from the N137 and take the exit which offers "Saintes, Abbaye aux Dames and Chaniers". Then follow D24, « route de Cognac par la vallée de la Charente" through Les Arcivaux, the river is to your right.
**CAREFUL! There is a flashing speed sign, followed by a speed trap at 50kph (about 30 mph) just before the railway level crossing – a chicane – at Port Hublé. (Many people including locals have been caught here)
Continue towards the village of Chaniers, going past a farm entrance, a 70 kph sign, a flashing light and then a post marking Rue Pampanie all on the right. For the front entrance turn right and immediately left into impasse Pampanie and stop! We are the last house on the left.
For parking, go 50m. past Rue Pampanie and take the next right onto a white surfaced, steeply descending drive. This is immediately adjacent to another house which has a tarmac roadside edge parking area for two cars.

From Cognac

From the east leave Cognac to Saintes by N141.On the left take the D83 to Dompierre and Chaniers. Pass the centre of Chaniers (crossroad with bakery on right hand side). 1 km further on, cross the roundabout by the Chaniers exit sign. Chez Périneau is marked. Take the next left into Rue Pampanie. (See above)

We have sketched out some pointers but do use the further information links below.

You can also take ferries to Calais, and Boulogne, then drive via Rouen and Poitiers to the Charente. There is space for at least 4 cars to park at the back of the house. Also Ferries from Ireland.

AirBy air

Ryanair: from London Stansted to La Rochelle and starting in the Spring to
Angouleme from 99p single, excluding tax. Prices vary from British Airways
but you have more airport flexibility from around the UK to Bordeaux and Angouleme.

By trainTrain Service

Take the Eurostar to Lille, then switch to a TGV service continuing as far as Angouleme then finally to Cognac. Either pick up your hire-car or a taxi to Chaniers. The journey by Eurotunnel/Eurostar to Calais is fast and the remaining distance is by motorway nearly all the way to Saintes.
